Nye County, Nevada is the largest county in the state and the third-largest in the contiguous U.S., covering over 18,000 square miles. Founded in 1864, it’s named after James W. Nye, the first governor of the Nevada Territory. The county seat is Tonopah, but Pahrump is the most populous area, home to about 86% of residents.
